New at ‘Thinkuknow’

There are now some new resources for 5 -7 year olds on the ‘Thinkuknow‘ site –  thanks to Twitter ‘alle11′ for this. This is what the site says for itself:

This 8 minute animation introduces Lee & Kim, a brother and sister navigating the online world with the help of their trusted superhero friend SID! With his super powers, SID shows them how to keep themselves safe while having fun online. Based around 4 simple tips for children to remember and a song, the cartoon aims to teach children how to protect themselves and others around them. As well as addressing grooming, the animation also focuses on digital citizenship highlighting the importance of treating each other well and behaving responsibly not only in the playground, but also online.

The Wild Web Woods

It may be a little dated now but could still be useful.

The Wild Web Woods is a game instituted by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Its purpose is for people/children to get to know and respect children’s rights and protect children from any kind of violence. The game is based on the Council’s ‘Internet Literacy’ handbook which has 21 fact sheets on important issues and contains lots of help for teachers and parents.

The Wild Web Woods comes in 22 European languages.

Order now to help promote internet safety.

Click here to download an A4 poster for your school newsletter.

More about the book

Dud thinks he’s found a foolproof way of getting rich quick. All he has to do is put his personal details online. What could possibly go wrong? Zip and Mouse aren’t convinced: they want to know, who wants to know? This book is for children aged 8 to 12 to help promote internet safety. It was created with  help from children in this age group and in collaboration with Childnet International.

“Literacy skills are absolutely vital in enabling children to fulfil their potential. As all reading counts in developing these life changing skills, it has never been so important to celebrate children’s reading online through initiatives such as Who wnts 2 no? The wider the variety of formats in which children read, the richer is their experience of reading.”

Jonathan Douglas, Director, National Literacy Trust

Who wnts 2 no? will be published on 5th March 2009 and copies will be available from then.
