Porchester Junior School raise the bar

Every now and then something happens in a school that really excites me. Today I read about the iPhone app that IS Porchester Junior School in Nottingham. Following on from their ‘mobile website’ ideas and their excellent ‘vodcasts’ this is the next step along their creative road. From the school web site:

If you’ve got an iPhone, or an iPod touch, then you need to get thePorchester App. Yes, that’s right, we have our very own App, designed and created by Mr. Widdowson, available for free from the App store that brings you the latest website articles, videos and audio from school.

We’re think it’s brilliant, and we’re not sure but…we might just be the first school to have our own App.

Last evening Simon Widdowson tweeted: Exciting times at Porchester Junior. We’ve just launched an iPhone app for the school website; http://j.mp/5Dobvs , http://twitpic.com/yzjdy and many people downloaded and took a look.

I don’t know of any other school who has their own iPhone app for communicating with children and parents and this seems to me to have raised the bar for everyone else.
